I know what a difference one person can make.
Someone saw potential in a young man from the Bronx and gave me an opportunity.
I took that opportunity, worked hard, and became part of basketball history. But the championship was only one chapter of my story.
What mattered just as much was what came afterward: a lifetime of teaching, coaching, encouraging, and helping young people believe they could accomplish more than they imagined.
That's the spirit behind the Nevil Shed Legacy Foundation.
Through Youth Leadership, Mentorship, and Workforce & College Readiness, our Foundation focuses on three things every young person deserves: the confidence to lead, someone who believes in them, and the opportunity to build a future of their own choosing.
These aren't just programs. They're ways to help San Antonio's underserved youth discover their strengths, recognize their possibilities, and take the next step forward.

The Youth Leadership Program helps underserved young people in San Antonio build the confidence, character, and practical skills to lead themselves, encourage others, and strengthen their communities.
Inspired by Nevil Shed's legacy, the program brings together team sports, education, community service, and real-world experiences to help young people practice discipline, courage, accountability, communication, and teamwork.

The Youth Mentorship Program provides consistent, positive adult mentorship and a supportive environment where young people can develop character, confidence, discipline, leadership, life skills, and a strong sense of purpose. The program uses Nevil Shed's legacy, basketball, education, and mentorship as tools for helping young people translate perseverance, teamwork, integrity, and accountability into success beyond sports.

Inspired by Nevil Shed's legacy of discipline, perseverance, teamwork, education, and breaking barriers, the program helps young people develop concrete plans, professional skills, financial knowledge, and connections that expand their opportunities.
